Student Goals
Students in this concentration will:
- Develop an understanding of gender and sexuality informed by historical, transnational, and interdisciplinary perspectives
- Become fluent in critical theory
- Design a curriculum that applies relevant theories to more than one discipline
- Develop strong critical thinking and writing skills
- Produce and present a significant piece of original research or creative work
Concentration Requirements
The program of study outlined below will be developed by each student in consultation with the concentration advisor. Prospective concentrators can use the concentration planning worksheet to help develop their program of study, and can browse sample concentration plans.
The GNSS concentration consists of 10 courses, 12 for honors concentrators.
Required Courses
1 Introduction to Gender and Sexuality Studies course (GNSS 0120)
4 Interdisciplinary Focus courses
2 Introductory or Methodology courses
1 Senior Seminar (GNSS 1990)
For honors in the concentration:
- 2 Directed Research and Thesis courses (GNSS 1970 and 1980)
Senior Presentation
All graduating senior concentrators are required to do a short presentation of either their senior essay or thesis project. The presentation is usually part of GNSS 1990: Senior Seminar.
