Biography
Nathalie Jordi
What do you do? I co-founded the Hotel Peter & Paul, a 71-room hotel in a former Catholic school & church complex in her New Orleans neighborhood. I am currently working to develop the first community solar farm in the Deep South. Previously, I started a popsicle business in NYC and worked as a bike guide and cheesemonger. I am raising two kids in the Marigny with my journalist husband.
How did the GNSS concentration shape your career? I found the gender studies concentration to be a really flexible way to roam all over the Brown curriculum. I focused on food: one year was spent doing an oral history/community cookbook for a group of women in suburban Philadelphia who had been in a card club together for 40 years. One summer was spent studying the foodways of Mexico and Spain (in those places), and my senior thesis was about food and class in 20th century America. The gender studies concentration allowed me to sharpen my critical thinking skills and go down all kinds of interesting rabbit holes (go broad, go narrow).
