Biography
Lyle Cherneff
What do you do? I currently work at the Legal Rights Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I am assisting in the launch of the First Defense Program, a new initiative to provide free, high-quality legal services to arrestees in Hennepin County at the point of arrest.
How did the GNSS concentration shape your career? Gender and Sexuality Studies provided a rich intellectual home for me at Brown. I appreciated the freedom to work across disciplines and the opportunity to study with brilliant professors in several departments. In GNSS I found a rich community of queer and feminist scholars approaching a wide variety of questions with rigor and care. I learned to listen closely, to read carefully, to write deliberately, and to continually reconsider my own assumptions—all excellent training for a legal career and a life.
