Biography
Nancy L. Buc retired as co-founder and partner of the law firm of Buc & Beardsley in 2011. Nancy is a nationally recognized authority on food, drug, and cosmetics law, and her law firm focused primarily on issues related to the US Food & Drug Administration. Prior to co-founding Buc & Beardsley in 1994, Nancy was chief counsel for the US Food & Drug Administration, during which time she was instrumental in implementing health resolution measures related to toxic shock syndrome. For these efforts, she earned a special citation from the US Secretary of Health & Human Services, and the FDA Award of Merit in 1981. Previously, she was assistant director of the Bureau of Consumer Protection and attorney-advisor to the chairman of the Federal Trade Commission. Nancy began her career with the law firm of Weil Gotshal & Manges, joining as an associate in 1972, and later becoming the first female partner of the firm in 1977. She is a former director of biotechnology companies Dynavax and Agritope, Inc.
Buc earned an A.B. in American civilization from Brown and a LLB from the University of Virginia School of Law. She is a former trustee of the University of Virginia School of Law and a former director of the Alan Guttmacher Institute, the Women’s Legal Defense Fund, the Food and Drug Law Institute, and the National Partnership for Women & Families.
