Biography

Diane Lipscombe graduated with a PhD in Pharmacology from University College London in 1986 and then studied as a postdoctoral associate at Yale University School of Medicine and subsequently at Stanford University Medical School. In 1992 she joined the Department of Neuroscience at Brown. Dr. Lipscombe's research explores the molecular and cellular mechanisms that regulate neuronal function in health and disease including the role of calcium ion channel proteins in adaptive and maladaptive pain. Dr. Lipscombe served as recent President of the Society for Neuroscience, is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Science, and participates in faculty goverance through service on several committees. Dr. Lipscombe is commited to promoting student and faculty diversity in the sciences. Dr. Lipscombe is the Director of the Robery J. & Nancy D. Carney Institute for Brain Science.
